Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Police authorities in Northern Ireland have brought charges against two women in connection with the tragic death of 23-year-old nursing assistant Odhran Kelly. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) announced that the women, aged 43 and 36, have been charged with assisting an offender and are scheduled to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. These two individuals join two 31-year-old men who have already been arrested as part of the ongoing police investigation.
The two men arrested earlier remain in police custody as detectives continue to gather evidence and piece together the events leading up to the murder. Meanwhile, the body of Mr. Kelly, who was discovered next to a burning car in Maple Court during the early hours of Sunday, has been formally identified following a post-mortem examination. The authorities have ruled out any connections to organized crime related to the killing.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Kelly of the PSNI expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and acknowledged the difficulty they are currently facing. He affirmed that the investigation is still in its early stages and emphasized the importance of community support. Detective Kelly urged anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the Edward Street or Francis Street areas of Lurgan between 2 am and 5 am on Sunday to come forward and contact the authorities on 101.
DUP MP Carla Lockhart echoed the plea from the police for individuals with information about the murder to assist the investigation. Lockhart emphasized the shock felt by the local community and expressed solidarity with the Kelly family as they grapple with the tragedy. She commended the tireless efforts of the police in their pursuit of justice and called for any available footage circulating on social media to be made available for scrutiny.
In a poignant display of solidarity, hundreds of people gathered for a touching vigil in Edward Street to commemorate the life of Odhran Kelly. Attendees brought balloons, candles, and flowers, while some of Mr. Kelly’s family members wore T-shirts bearing the words “Justice for Odhran.” The vigil served as a powerful reminder of the impact this young man had on the community and the determination to ensure that those responsible for his untimely death are brought to justice.
As the investigation continues, the authorities remain committed to uncovering the truth behind this tragic incident and providing closure to the grieving family and the local community.
