MORANG, Dec 7: A devastating fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at a scrap godown located in Saatghumti, Biratnagar-7, claiming the lives of two individuals and leaving four others injured. The deceased have been identified as Dipak Mandal, 40, the owner of the scrap godown, and an unidentified person whose identity is yet to be ascertained, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office in Morang, Ranjan Kumar Dahal.
In addition to the fatalities, the incident also left Sushila Paswan, 65, Rita Sardar, 60, Kishor Paswan, 58, all residents of Biratnagar-6, and Pinky Kamat, 30, from Katahari Rural Municipality, critically injured. The injured victims were rushed to Neuro Hospital and Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Both Sushila and Rita are said to be in critical condition.
The fire, which rapidly engulfed the scrap godown, required the combined efforts of six fire engines, police personnel, and local residents to bring it under control. Deputy Superintendent Dahal expressed gratitude for the swift response and collaborative efforts that helped minimize the extent of the damage caused by the inferno.
