Gazipur, Bangladesh – In a tragic incident, a train derailed on the Dhaka-Mymensingh rail line in Gazipur, leaving one person dead and 10 others injured. The derailment occurred on a section of the track that had been damaged by unidentified individuals, according to a fire service official.

The deceased has been identified as Aslam, a 35-year-old poultry businessman from Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh. The injured individuals have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The incident took place at Bankhuria around 4:00 am when seven coaches of the Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express, including the locomotive, veered off the tracks. It was later discovered that the saboteurs had cut the rubber line of the track using gas cutters during the night. The fire service recovered a 12-kg gas cylinder from the forest beside the railway tracks, suggesting that it may have been used in the sabotage.

Authorities have confirmed the incident, and rescue operations are currently underway. The Deputy Assistant (Signal) of Joydebpur Junction, Sirajuddin, stated that the railway tracks were damaged at Bhawalghar station on the north side of the Junction. Sobir Hossain, Assistant Station Master of Bhawalgarh Junction, added that efforts are being made to safely rescue any trapped passengers.

Train accidents due to sabotage have become a growing concern in Bangladesh. The authorities have been urged to take strict measures to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of passengers. The railway department has also been asked to enhance security measures along the tracks to avoid any potential threats.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining and securing railway infrastructure to prevent accidents and protect the lives of passengers. Investigations are underway to identify the culprits behind the derailment, and it is hoped that they will be brought to justice swiftly.
