Tragic Head-on Collision Claims Three Lives in Huntingburg, Indiana

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (WISH) — A devastating head-on collision in rural southern Indiana early Wednesday morning resulted in the loss of three lives, according to state police authorities.

The fatal victims have been identified as Macario Sandoval, 52, and Matilde Valdes, 53, both residents of Huntinburg, along with Bryant Doane, 34, from Santa Claus.

In response to the distressing incident, Indiana State Police and deputies from the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office promptly rushed to the scene on U.S. 231, just north of Huntingburg airport, after receiving a distress call at approximately 5:36 a.m.

Upon initiating their investigation, law enforcement officers discovered that Sandoval and Valdes were traveling southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2004 Nissan truck.

Doane, on the other hand, was driving northbound in a 2022 Subaru and attempting to overtake another vehicle when he tragically collided head-on with Sandoval’s truck.

Regrettably, the collision proved fatal for all three individuals involved, as Sandoval, Valdes, and Doane tragically lost their lives at the scene. It is important to note that the vehicle Doane was attempting to pass was not involved in the crash.

In light of this tragic incident, autopsies have been scheduled for Friday to shed further light on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
