OLD MILL CREEK, Ill. – A Chicago man has been apprehended in connection with the tragic death of Megan Lewis, whose lifeless body was discovered on the side of the road in suburban Old Mill Creek in November, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Juan A. Vega-Montoya, 37, residing in the 2100 block of North Narragansett Avenue, emerged as a potential suspect in the investigation into Lewis’ untimely demise, as determined by Lake County Sheriff’s detectives.

The lifeless body of 39-year-old Lewis was found on the east side of Hunt Club Road, just south of Route 173, concealed within a black plastic bag on the morning of November 29. This tragedy was further compounded by the fact that Lewis was 16-weeks pregnant when she was mercilessly murdered, as verified by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Through a comprehensive review of surveillance footage, investigators pieced together the events leading up to Lewis’ demise. They discovered that on November 26, Vega-Montoya picked up Lewis in the vicinity of Cicero Avenue and West Belden Avenue in Chicago. Tragically, an argument ensued during the car ride, ultimately culminating in Vega-Montoya allegedly strangling Lewis to death.

Shockingly, Vega-Montoya allegedly kept Lewis’ lifeless body in his vehicle for two days before callously discarding her along the side of the roadway during the overnight hours of November 28.

Authorities took swift action, arresting Vega-Montoya on Monday, December 11 during a routine traffic stop near his residence. Subsequent investigation of his vehicle unearthed additional evidence linking him to the homicide.

Vega-Montoya now faces charges of concealing a homicidal death, as approved by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. Given that Lewis was murdered in Chicago, Lake County officials have transferred all relevant investigative information to the Chicago Police Department, who are expected to pursue murder charges against Vega-Montoya.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office continues to diligently investigate this heinous crime, and the community anxiously awaits justice for Megan Lewis and her unborn child.
