Michael Johnson : “Police Release Names of Officers Involved in Fatal Shooting of Man Reaching for Gun”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Police in Little Rock, Arkansas have released the names of the officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man who they say was reaching for a gun. The incident occurred at the Days Inn motel near the Arkansas State Police headquarters on Monday, December 11.

According to authorities, police responded to a shots fired call at the motel around 3 p.m. It was reported that between four or five shots were fired by an unidentified individual. Shortly after, another call came in stating that a person had a gun and had fired into one of the rooms at the motel.

Officers Mark Ray and Dakota Faircloth arrived at the scene and identified a man who matched the description of the suspect. The man was later identified as 38-year-old Michael Johnson. The two officers ordered Johnson to drop the gun, but he allegedly refused to comply with their commands. One of the officers then fired shots at Johnson.

Little Rock Police Department Chief Heath Helton stated that Johnson reached into his waistband and pulled out what was later determined to be a handgun. Johnson was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

When asked if Johnson had pointed the gun at the officers, Chief Helton mentioned that the department is currently analyzing body camera footage as well as surveillance video from the Days Inn to gather more information about the incident.

The shooting is currently under investigation by the police department and both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. As more information becomes available, updates will be provided.
