Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Luxury Apartment Resident Discovers Intruder Hiding in Her Closet
In a shocking incident that unfolded at the Skyloft luxury apartments in Irvine, a resident returned home from a weeklong vacation only to make a startling discovery. As she approached her closet, she was taken aback to find a complete stranger crouching inside, holding kitchen utensils and a pizza cutter. The resident immediately contacted the Irvine police, who swiftly responded to the scene.
Surveillance footage from a neighboring apartment captured the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Wendy Wilkinson, attempting to flee. To the surprise of the authorities, it was revealed that Wilkinson was also a resident of the Skyloft complex, living merely 100 feet away from the victim. Upon knocking on Wilkinson’s door, the officers found her hiding in her own closet, alongside items that did not belong to her. Additionally, they discovered a receipt for a storage unit, raising suspicions about potential further criminal activities.
Further investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at both Wilkinson’s apartment and the storage unit. To their dismay, the police recovered a plethora of stolen belongings, including purses, duffle bags, televisions, passports, and the victim’s work identification card. It became clear that Wilkinson had managed to gain access to the victim’s apartment, allowing her ample time to pilfer the residence over the course of several hours or even days.
The victim, understandably traumatized by the incident, has since decided to relocate from her apartment. Eyewitness News reached out to Legacy Partners, the company that manages Skyloft, but has not yet received a response.
Wilkinson now faces a burglary charge and is also potentially connected to another burglary in Riverside County. In light of this alarming incident, Sergeant Karie Davies of the Irvine Police Department advises residents to invest in home surveillance cameras. By doing so, homeowners can receive instant notifications on their mobile devices, allowing them to promptly investigate any suspicious activity and determine whether it is an authorized individual or an intruder.
As the investigation continues, it serves as a stark reminder for residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the security of their homes.
