Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Gunman Arrested After Firing Shots in Road Rage Incident on Houston Highway

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A terrifying road rage incident unfolded on a busy Houston highway on Tuesday afternoon, as a gunman allegedly fired shots at another driver. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, but the suspect was eventually apprehended by authorities.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on U.S. 59 near downtown Houston. The victim, who miraculously escaped unharmed, immediately called 911 and alerted a nearby Harris County deputy to the incident. The deputy quickly spotted the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Ariel Reynosa Flores, and attempted to pull him over.

However, Flores refused to stop and initiated a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, Flores collided with two other vehicles before abandoning his car near N. MacGregor and Almeda and fleeing on foot. The chase came to an end near Hermann Park, where deputies were able to apprehend Flores.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that no one was injured during the series of events. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but authorities are treating it as a road rage incident and continuing their investigation.

Records from the Texas Department of Public Safety reveal that Flores has a history of criminal activity dating back to 2010. In September 2022, he was sentenced to two years in prison for a felon in possession of a weapon charge. Despite filing for parole in May 2023, Flores had an open parole violation warrant at the time of his arrest.

Flores now faces new charges of aggravated assault and evading arrest in connection with the road rage incident. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to exercise caution and avoid engaging in confrontations on the road, as incidents of road rage are on the rise.

Maj. Saul Suarez of the HCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau emphasized the need for de-escalation and urged drivers not to carry or use weapons in such situations. He highlighted the fortunate timing of the deputy’s presence, which prevented any injuries in this particular case.

As investigations continue, the community is reminded to prioritize safety on the roads and to report any incidents of road rage promptly.
