Johnny Tomlinson : “Man Indicted for Murder of Transient Man Found Hidden Under Tires in Beaumont”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Isaac Platt, a 34-year-old resident of Beaumont, Texas, has been indicted for the murder of Johnny Tomlinson, a 65-year-old transient. The Beaumont Police discovered Tomlinson’s body hidden beneath tires in a wooded area in October, leading to an investigation that ultimately led to Platt’s indictment.

The incident came to light on Sunday, October 29, 2023, when the Beaumont Police received a report of a body found in the area of Crockett Street and Avenue C. This location was known to be a campsite for transients, providing a temporary home for individuals like Tomlinson. A witness informed the police that he had noticed a foul smell, which he believed to be that of something dead. When he mentioned it to Platt, the suspect acknowledged that there was indeed something dead in the area.

Further investigation revealed that Tomlinson had been living with Platt in the same vicinity where his body was discovered. Another witness came forward and recounted an argument between Tomlinson and Platt, during which the suspect accused the victim of stealing his drugs. The witness left the scene but returned later that night to find Tomlinson missing, although his bike remained. This struck the witness as odd since Tomlinson relied on his bike due to a medical condition that made walking difficult.

The witness also disclosed that he had engaged in a dispute with Platt over the suspect’s dog supposedly eating his food. The argument turned physical, and Platt ominously warned the witness, “do you want to end up like Johnny?” while gesturing towards the area where Tomlinson’s body would eventually be found.

During a subsequent interview with detectives, Platt confessed to killing Tomlinson. He led them back to the crime scene, where they discovered the murder weapon and additional evidence. Platt is currently being held on a $950,000 bond.

Tomlinson’s death was officially ruled a homicide after the autopsy confirmed that he had been strangled. The investigation is ongoing, and any further updates will be provided as they become available.
