Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Calgary Man Charged with Manslaughter in Road Rage Incident
Calgary, AB – A road rage incident in Calgary on December 12, 2023, has resulted in the death of 35-year-old David Mervin Berglund and the arrest of Steven Allen, 34, who has been charged with manslaughter.
The incident began when a non-injury hit-and-run collision occurred between Allen’s red 2004 Chevrolet Aveo and Berglund’s 2002 GMC Sierra. Shortly after the collision, a passenger in the Aveo called 9-1-1 to report an ongoing road rage incident. They claimed that the driver of the Sierra was driving erratically, swerving in and out of traffic, and brandishing a knife towards them.
Calgary 9-1-1 dispatchers instructed the occupants of the Aveo to disengage from the Sierra, but they continued to follow the vehicle. The situation escalated when the driver of the Sierra pulled over and exited his vehicle on Temple Drive N.E. It was at this point that the Aveo drove past the Sierra, and the driver allegedly kicked the passenger-side of the vehicle.
In a shocking turn of events, the Aveo then reversed into the driver of the Sierra, striking him and pushing him into a nearby tree. The driver of the Sierra sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both the driver and the passenger of the Aveo were immediately taken into custody. While the passenger was released without charges, Steven Allen, the driver of the Aveo, was charged with manslaughter. He is set to appear in court on February 6, 2024.
