Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Suspect Apprehended in Monroe Apartment Shooting Incident
MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Law enforcement authorities have successfully apprehended a suspect in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at an apartment complex on Chatham St. in Monroe back in July. The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office promptly responded to the distress call, which was received at approximately 11:49 p.m.
According to court records, two individuals were shot during the incident. Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the other was swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent care. The investigation, spearheaded by the OPSO, revealed compelling evidence indicating the use of two separate firearms in the assault.
An affidavit filed in court shed light on the identification of one of the alleged shooters. The victim currently in critical condition positively identified Kenneth Kennedy from a photo lineup. The victim further reported that Kennedy was accompanied by an unidentified male, commonly referred to as “Army Man” due to his distinctive attire featuring combat boots. Subsequently, investigators collected several pieces of evidence at the crime scene, including a military-style boot discovered in a ditch in front of the victim’s apartment, accompanied by shell casings.
Forensic experts analyzed the boot’s insole for DNA, and the results from the crime lab confirmed a match with Vonterrius White. Surveillance footage obtained from cameras at the scene depicted White in a Jeep Patriot parked outside Kennedy’s residence approximately one hour before the shooting took place. The vehicle was observed circling the victim’s apartment multiple times prior to the incident. OPSO’s investigation further revealed that the license plate of the Jeep Patriot captured on video belonged to White, who, it was discovered, is a convicted felon with prior charges involving the use of dangerous weapons.
On December 14, White was apprehended by law enforcement authorities and subsequently booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center. He now faces charges including second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Currently, White is being held without bail as the legal proceedings progress.
The arrest of the suspect brings a glimmer of hope to the community affected by this tragic incident. Law enforcement agencies continue to work diligently to ensure justice is served, providing solace to the victims’ families and seeking to maintain the safety and security of Monroe’s residents.
