Reena : “35-year-old Woman Loses Life in Tragic Delhi Metro Accident: Saree Gets Caught in Door”

Death – Obituary – Accident and Crime News : Tragic Incident: Woman Dies After Saree Gets Caught in Delhi Metro Train Door

New Delhi witnessed yet another heart-wrenching incident as a 35-year-old woman lost her life after her saree got entangled in the door of a Delhi Metro train on December 14. The victim, identified as Reena, suffered severe brain and chest injuries at Inderlok Metro station. Despite being rushed to multiple hospitals, Reena tragically succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, December 16, at Safdarjung Hospital.

Reena, who could never have anticipated that her routine Delhi Metro commute would turn fatal, was dragged along the platform for several meters. The chilling incident was captured on CCTV footage, revealing that her saree had become stuck in the closing train door. As the train began to move, she was forcefully pulled onto the platform, resulting in the tragic accident.

Before being admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, Reena was taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, Manohar Lohia Hospital, and Lok Nayak Hospital. Unfortunately, all three hospitals refused her admission due to a shortage of ventilators, delaying her crucial medical treatment.

The victim, Reena, was the sole provider for her family, selling vegetables to make ends meet. Tragically, she had lost her husband in 2014 and is now survived by her 12-year-old daughter, Ria, and 10-year-old son, Hiten.

Ria, devastated by the incident, revealed that she had last spoken to her mother on Thursday, and Reena had promised to attend a wedding and return the following day. The grief-stricken relatives of the deceased woman are now demanding permanent housing for the children, along with compensation and proper education. One of Reena’s relatives shared, “She used to earn around Rs 400 a day… the children study at a nearby government school.”

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety has declared that a thorough inquiry will be conducted into the incident. If negligence is found, appropriate legal action will be taken. It is worth mentioning that despite several passengers inside the compartment and on the platform signaling the train driver to stop, the train continued to run after Reena’s saree got stuck. It was the driver of another metro train approaching from the opposite direction who noticed the victim’s body on the tracks and alerted the Metro officials.

This tragic incident underscores the importance of passenger safety within the Delhi Metro system. Authorities must take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
