Kolkata: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) assigned to investigate the Netaji Nagar-Anandapur abduction and alleged rape case has made another breakthrough by apprehending a co-conspirator in Mumbai on Friday night.

The accused individual was brought to Kolkata on transit remand on Saturday. Previously, the police had arrested three individuals, including Bikram Das, the mastermind behind the abduction. Following the transfer of the case to the SIT, led by an assistant commissioner, three more suspects, including a woman, were apprehended. During their investigation, the police discovered that Bikram had an accomplice named Sukdeb Sukumar Sutradhar, who played a significant role in the conspiracy. After learning that Sutradhar was hiding in Mumbai, a team was dispatched to the city, resulting in his arrest on Friday.

Earlier, the police had detained four individuals, including Das. The incident unfolded on December 4 when a young man identified as Subhajit Mondal allegedly raped a woman with whom he had a previous relationship. After the breakup, Subhajit went missing, leading the police to suspect he had fled. However, a major breakthrough occurred when the Netaji Nagar Police Station rescued Subhajit and his driver from an apartment where they had been held captive since December 4. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the police discovered that another individual, Souvik Das, had been driving Subhajit’s car on the afternoon of the alleged rape, despite the victim claiming it occurred at night. Subsequently, Souvik was taken into custody.

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation of the Netaji Nagar-Anandapur abduction cum alleged rape case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has successfully apprehended another co-conspirator. The arrest took place in Mumbai on Friday night and the accused was brought back to Kolkata on transit remand the following day.

The SIT, headed by an assistant commissioner, has been diligently working on solving the case, which saw the initial arrest of three individuals, including the alleged mastermind, Bikram Das. After the transfer of the case to the SIT, three more suspects, including a woman, were taken into custody. Through their thorough investigation, the police discovered the existence of an accomplice named Sukdeb Sukumar Sutradhar, who played a crucial role in the conspiracy. Acting on the information that Sutradhar was hiding in Mumbai, a specialized team was dispatched to apprehend him, leading to his arrest on Friday.

The case itself dates back to December 4 when a young man named Subhajit Mondal was accused of raping a woman he had previously been in a relationship with. Following the breakup, Subhajit had gone missing, raising suspicions that he had fled. However, a dramatic turn of events unfolded when the Netaji Nagar Police Station rescued Subhajit and his driver from a flat where they had been held captive since December 4. The investigation took a new twist when CCTV footage revealed that another individual, Souvik Das, was seen driving Subhajit’s car during the afternoon when the alleged rape took place, despite the victim claiming it occurred at night. Consequently, Souvik was promptly arrested.

The continuous efforts of the SIT and the police force are gradually unveiling the intricate details of this disturbing case. With each arrest, the investigation gains momentum, providing hope for justice to be served to the victim and bringing closure to the community affected by these heinous crimes.
